Ken Quon Ride On

In conjunction with the Ken Quon “Ride On” and Barbeque, RE/MAX Sea to Sky Real Estate and Team Whistler Cycling Presents the RE/MAX Corridor Cup Challenge and Cycling BC's BC Cup XC (cross country mtb) Finals

The event consists of a "Family Ride ", a "Twoonie Style" ride and a competitive event in the form of a Team Challenge. And - this year for the first time in this event filled day we welcome Cycling BC's - BC Cup circuit of races to Whistler for their final cross country mountian bike event for the 2010 racing season. (see http://www.cyclingbc.net/cross-country-calendar  for a their calendar of race events) The rides and races finish up at the Riverside RV Resort and Campground where everyone can cool off and enjoy a barbeque, refreshments, entertainment and some fun and games. Race winners will be awarded, raffle draws and a silent auction will fill the afternoon.

There are five events taking place in Whistler on August 8, 2010:

  • The Team Whistler BC Cup XC Finals *
  • The Citizens XC Mountain Bike Race *
  • The Ken Quon RE/MAX Corridor Cup (two rider combined time from above – no extra charge) as well as the
  • A Toonie "Style" race (only one lap)
  • The Ken Quon Family ride (out and back on a different course route)

 

The Team Whistler BC Cup XC Finals (and Citizens XC Race): This is the final race in the 2010 BC Cup XC Series and the race is open to all!  Please note, minimum age is 10 years of age as of Dec 31, 2010. Most categories will do three laps of the course on the Lost Lake trails in Whistler.

Ken Quon RE/MAX Corridor Cup: Based on the combined times for teams of two, the Sea-to-Sky Corridor champions will be crowned. There is no extra charge for this distinction. Crowns will be awarded in four categories: combined age over 80 years, open female, open male and open mixed. Fastest combined times are the overall Corridor Cup champions. Anyone racing in a BC Cup or Citizen’s category can race for the Corridor Cup.

Toonie "Style" Race. Owing to the tradition of the ride for Ken Quon, this event is a one lap race for Whistler Locals in the same format Toonie series. There will be winners announced for top male, female and Junior 18 and under. Race fee $25 includes $10 race insurance fee. Prizes will be awarded for the top male, top female in adult and junior categories.

For those riders who want to pay tribute to Ken Quon, families can participate in a family ride to his memorial where they can place a flower in his memory. This is not a race – it is a celebration of life and will be on a different trail than the race and will be a "family friendly"cycle route. Fee to participate is: $10-Adults, $5- Children.

*All Participants must be Cycling BC licensed racers. If you're not licenced a 1 Day License is available for $10.

 (Please note - for the "Twoonie Style" ride - the $25 fee includes the $10 1 day license fee)

Entry fee includes the chance to win draw prizes as well as a burger and beverage after the race.

Registration
Pre-registration is online at Cycling BC from May 31 to August 5th at 5pm (Go to the MTB On-line Race page from the Mountain tab at www.cyclingbc.net). Early bird registration ends August 1st at 11:59pm and is $45 (Pro/Elite $55). After August 1st the fee goes up $10. Please see the schedule page for on-site registration and sign-on times.

Non-race license holders may purchase a Cycling BC one-event membership for $10 or $30 (insured). US Residents are now able to purchase one-event but must sign declaration that adequate out of country travel insurance has been obtained.
